STEP 1 – Complete your level 1 Health and Safety qualification

STEP 2 – Complete your health safety and environment test
The next step is to book the CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) test at a local approved centre. This multiple-choice test evaluates your understanding of on-site safety practices, such as manual handling, working at height, and emergency procedures. It costs £22.50 and takes 45 minutes to complete. You’ll need to score at least 45 out of 50 to pass. Successful completion of this test is a key requirement for obtaining your CSCS Labourer Card and proves you can work safely on construction sites.
STEP 3 – Order your card
Once you’ve passed both the Level 1 course and the CITB test, you’re ready to apply for your CSCS Green Labourer Card. It is mandatory that all green CSCS card holders have this L1 Health and Safety qualification. In the past this wasn’t necessary but this changed in 2020 when it become a requirement.
